Gaya Gelato

Built on fresh, seasonal ingredients, Gaya Gelato faced a market that equated consistency with quality. Rather than hide nature's variability, GAEA made it the story — reframing change as authenticity and helping establish Gaya Gelato as Jakarta's benchmark for premium, artisanal gelato.
Challenge
The challenge existed on two levels.
At the product level, Gaya Gelato’s commitment to fresh, natural ingredients meant flavour profiles shifted from batch to batch. Passionfruit, mango, tamarillo, guava and other seasonal fruits never arrive exactly the same. Without artificial flavour correction or preservatives, the product reflects nature as it is — what many brands would treat as a quality-control problem was, in reality, evidence of authenticity.
At the brand level, Gaya Gelato faced a perception gap as it expanded into Jakarta. In Bali, its credibility was reinforced by a destination setting and resort culture. In Jakarta that context disappeared, and the brand needed to establish trust, quality, and desirability on its own.
Approach
Rather than masking the inconsistency, GAEA made it the story.
The strategy was rooted in one of the brand’s core ideas: Earth. Heart. Art. If the product genuinely comes from nature, then nature should be visible in the experience. Seasonal variation was reframed not as a flaw, but as proof that the ingredients were real. This shifted the conversation from product promotion to category education — instead of asking people to simply choose a gelato, we invited them to understand what authentic gelato should be. By redefining variation as a mark of craftsmanship, Gaya Gelato claimed a distinctive position in a category increasingly shaped by artificial consistency.
The work
GAEA built an integrated brand-communication ecosystem spanning every customer touchpoint.
The work included brand photography and content production, social media management, and public-relations initiatives that secured features in Femina; user-generated-content programs such as #MeAndMyGelato; seasonal campaigns including Tropical Paradise; and customer-retention initiatives through G Card and LINE@. The ecosystem was strengthened by partnerships with OCBC, Traveloka, coffee communities, and student networks, alongside grand-opening activations and product innovation — including an Italian biscuit line with transparent allergen labelling. Each effort reinforced the same message: authenticity, craftsmanship, and a genuine connection to ingredients.

Outcome
The strategy helped transform Gaya Gelato from a respected Bali destination brand into one of Jakarta’s most recognised gelato names.
Expansion from PIK to Grand Indonesia and Mall Kelapa Gading proved the model’s scalability, while earned media, organic user-generated content, and lifestyle partnerships carried the brand’s influence well beyond the dessert category. Most importantly, Gaya Gelato established itself as a benchmark for quality in a market where artificial flavouring and manufactured consistency had long defined expectations. By embracing the imperfections of nature, the brand turned authenticity into its strongest competitive advantage.
